FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 16, 2003 Contact: Melissa Fowler, Festival Director The 1st Annual Reel Venus Film Festival Kicks Off July 22, 23 and 24th 2003 New York's Premiere Showcase of Film/Video Shorts by Women The 1st Annual Reel Venus Film Festival kicks off on July 22, 23 & 24th at the Peter Norton Symphony Space in the 150 Seat Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater located in New York City at Broadway and 95th Streets. Three programs will screen per day over the 3 - Day period showcasing 56 Film/Video Shorts made by women filmmakers locally and abroad consisting of mainstream and alternative work that covers the gamut of Narrative, Documentary, Experimental and Animation. Programming will include a majority of work by local, New York based talent: Experimental film pioneer, Barbara Hammer, Our Grief Is Not A Cry for War, Lisa Robinson, Breaker, Amy Greenfield, Wildfire, Annie J. Howell, Grace and The New Rules, Student Academy Award winner, Eva Saks, Family Values and first time director, Marnee Meyer, My Life In Verse, Hima B., Ent-Homo-Philia, Sarah Bassine's, Eight and queer festival favorite Bar Talk by Cheryl Furjanic. U.S. premieres will include short works from Ireland, Finland, Georgia, Canada, England and Australia.
