The 1st Annual Reel Venus Film Festival
Launches July 22, 23 and 24th 2003
New York's Premiere Showcase of Film/Video Shorts by
Women
The 1st Annual Reel Venus Film Festival is set to launch
on July 22, 23 & 24th at the Peter Norton Symphony Space in the 150 Seat
Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater located in New York City at 95th and Broadway.
The Festival is being launched to celebrate the diversity
of New and Established women Filmmakers from the United States and Abroad
by showcasing Film/Video Shorts 30 minutes and under that have been directed,
co-directed and or written by a woman and produced within the last 2 years.
Three one hour length programs will be screened per day
over the 3-Day period consisting of Narrative, Documentary, Experimental,
and Animation, reflecting a diverse range of topics and mastery of the
craft of film & video making in a short time frame format. There will
be an eclectic blend of talent representation from the United States as
well different countries outside the United States. U.S. Premieres will
include short works from Ireland, Finland and Georgia. Remaining countries
with Film/Video shorts to be screened include Canada, England, Australia,
and Iran.
An Inaugural Screening and Launch Cocktail Reception will
kick off the 3-Day Event, on Monday July 21, 2003 at City Center's Studio
3, in Midtown Manhattan, with a screening of a 45-minute documentary titled
Spinsters. An uplifting film about the exciting and challenging underground
world of young women deejays, directed by Canadian Filmmakers, Jane Walker
and Jackie Pelle, both whom will be in attendance to present and briefly
discuss their work. Screening will be immediately followed by mingling,
complimentary cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres.
