Reel Venus Film Festival
is a three day event which was created and launched in 2003 to showcase
an eclectic body of current alternative and mainstream, film and video
shorts, 30 minutes or less in length, directed by emerging and established
women directors, video and multimedia artists from the United States and
abroad, whose work pushes traditional boundaries in storytelling methods
that inspire, entertain, excite, inform and provoke its audiences with
challenging topics, themes and images.
All genres, themes and topics are considered and included
with special emphasis given to works that expand the boundaries of creative
expression through cinema and photography which uniquely incorporate digital
media giving the filmmaker and photographer as artist and storyteller
a wider range of tools to create stories with.
In addition to showcasing a rich body of work on an annual basis, Reel
Venus will strive to fulfill the following creative programming initiatives
as a form of outreach to women filmmakers, photographers and multimedia
artists and film, photography and new media community at large:
Establish a presence in New York City as a premiere media event that women
filmmakers, photographers and multimedia artists from the United States
and Abroad come to know and refer to as an artistic playground increasing
exposure of their work and networking opportunities for creative and professional
growth.
Increase awareness of
the short film as an art form, by periodically showcasing selected works
from seasoned and established, pioneering women directors who have paved
the way.
Increase the exposure
of work from emerging and established women filmmakers and photographers
locally and abroad to a wider, untapped audience by creatively programming,
partnering and collaborating with local and international Film/Media Arts
entities that share the vision of promoting emerging film, photography
and multimedia art directed, photographed and conceived by women.
Encourage intimate dialogue between women directors and photographers
in presentation to the public at quarterly scheduled lecture/discussion
series facilitated by a guest speaker.
Provide periodic social forums/symposiums, which encourage women filmmakers
and photographers to exchange ideas with one another as well as artists
from other related mediums.
